UNCHSE Launches Books From Birth Program for Newborn Families

UNC Health Southeastern has become one of the first hospitals in North Carolina to launch the Books From Birth program, giving every newborn family a starter library to encourage early literacy from day one.

LUMBERTON, NC – UNC Health Southeastern (UNCHSE) has emerged as one of the first hospitals in the state of North Carolina to implement the Books From Birth program, which is an effort that seeks to promote love for reading in children right from their young age.

The program is going to ensure that every family with a newborn baby in the hospital gets a book collection that is suitable to the age of the baby.

Hospitals' administrators noted that the program demonstrates a dedication to enhancing children's wellbeing outside of their medical care by fostering early learning and brain development. It has been found out that regular reading in infants leads to improved communication and school preparation in the future.

Books From Birth becomes available thanks to the collaboration between organizations which are trying to make sure that every child will have access to the book despite his/her family's profile. Giving the book at the very first day of the kid's life, the program will help in making reading a permanent habit of a person.

This event is just another step to the fact that UNC Health Southeastern will join the trend when hospitals become more and more involved in literacy of infants.
